Did you miss Picnic in the Park this year?! The theme was "Illuminating the Night!" and THAT'S exactly what Savannah did -- Illuminate the Night!
Every year, Forsyth park’s beautiful green landscape is covered with blankets, lawnchairs, tables, and people that come out to experience Savannah Philharmonic’s “Picnic in the Park” celebration. Each year it just gets better and better. This year was by far the best!
The Savannah Philharmonic and the City of Savannah along with presenting sponsor Enmarket and media partner WTOC presented a night that couldn’t have been more perfect! The line-up was extraordinary and the atmosphere was filled with love for music and family and friends!
From 3 – 9 p.m., the community-wide event recognized National Arts and Humanities Month by featuring spectacular pre-concert performances, including students from Savannah Chatham Public Schools, students from the Savannah Classical Academy’s Strings Conservatory, Savannah High School Band, and Savannah College of Art & Design’s “Honey Bees” featuring American Idol winner, Candice Glover.
The Savannah Philharmonic’s long-standing partnership with the 3rd Infantry Division, the U.S. Army Band, Color Guard and Salute Battalion also performed. The 3rd ID provided their salute cannons as part of the program which wowed the crowds.
The main event, started at 7pm when The Savannah Philharmonic will took center stage performing a variety of musical genres for the city’s single largest outdoor musical event!
Hundreds of Savannahians celebrated the Philharmonic’s 10th Anniversary Season, embracing this year’s theme, “Illuminating the Night.” In the spirit of the event, attendees brought their take on the theme decorating their picnic blankets with candles, lights and glow sticks that creatively illuminated their picnic sites with dazzling light.
It was a sight to see and topping this event next year is going to be quite difficult now seeing how high the bar has been set.
