Serve up a jalapeno margarita

At 5Church Charleston, Bar Manager Chris shows us how to serve up a spicy margarita.

If you like your margaritas spicy, this is definitely the one for you. At 5Church Charleston, Bar Manager Chris shows us how to serve up a jalapeno margarita. This margarita is both hot and refreshing.

Wanna make it yourself? Here’s a step-by-step guide.

Start with taking two jalapenos and muddling them in a glass with a splash of simple syrup. Add ice.

Next, it’s time to build your cocktail, but make sure to do this in order. Start with 1.25 oz. of tequila, followed by .75 oz. of triple sec. An easy way to remember how to mix a classic margarita is to memorize the ratio 3-2-1: three parts tequila, two parts good triple sec (like Luxardo Triplum, Cointreau, or Combier), and one part lime juice.

Add some more simple syrup, and an ounce of sour mix. Once you’ve gotten all of your components, mix your drink by firmly shaking the mixture.

Use your strainer to pour the drink over ice.

For more spice, try adding an additional jalapeno and sprinkling some cayenne pepper over your margarita. But if that’s too much for you, the drink will be just fine without it.

If you’d rather try the original for yourself, check out 5Church Charleston! The building is a former church from the early 20th century with refined interior design.
